The SkyCaddie Breeze is very similar in design, size and layout to the SkyCaddie SGX. The main difference is the bigger graphics on the yardage screen which are bright and much clearer to read and will be especially appreciated by those who are visually challenged.

SkyCaddie is the only brand to walk all the courses they measure so that gives you reassurance for the accuracy of the maps and that is what you have to pay the annual subscription for, although the first year comes free with the device when you buy the Breeze.

The SkyCaddie Breeze starts up OK but it does take up to 5 minutes to warm up and locate the satellites, so turn it on when you get to the course and not on the first tee. Otherwise the course search facility worked very well to find the course and hole we were on and updated quickly as we went down the hole.

The Autoview feature enables the screen to alternate between landscape and portrait, although in landscape you only get the centre yardage, instead of front, middle and back in portrait which is a bit annoying. This user friendliness, or lack of, was a feature of the SGX software and menu and unfortunately the Breeze has not seen a big improvement. It is a bit clunky in places and is not particularly intuitive, but at least the joystick responds a little better than the SGX version as the way to control the device.

There are a lot of good features such as the scoring and stats to record strokes and putts to do some basic analysing of your game and you can sync scores to the web using the supplied software for your computer. We also liked the shot measuring function to see how far you hit each shot, although each one is a one off measure.

You can also upgrade to get features that come as standard on the SGX, such as Intelligreen, which allows you to see the exact shape of the green and move the cursor around to get exact yardages to different flag positions. This is really the nub of the Breeze. It is a cut down version of the SGX for around £40 less that you can upgrade to get the full SGX experience of your choice.

In the box, the Breeze comes with a good cradle to clip the device to your bag or strap, USB charging cable and quick start instructions.

Overall this is a good quality device that has one of the clearest displays on the market from a trusted manufacturer and course measurer. There are the options to upgrade it with good additional features that would justify the premium cost for what is essentially a 'front/middle/back' device.
