ShotVision Golf app Review

Reviewed on an iPhone

The ShotVision Golf App is designed to give instruction via videos of top professionals intergrated with instructional graphics. There is no doubting the quality of the videos and the high-res graphics, both of which are visually stunning.

The folks at ShotVision believe that visual learning is the best way to learn from top pros such as JB Holmes, Brad Faxon and Se Ri Pak. Whilst we enjoyed seeing the videos of pros and the cutting-edge graphics, we did miss some level of audio commentary. It is quite testing trying to follow and read the graphic instruction as well as watch the video itself, although it is easy to pause and rewind the videos.

Once in the app you have the choice of which pro you wish to learn from. Clearly the pros were selected by their expertise in different areas of the game (i.e. Brad Faxon = putting, JB Holmes = driving distance, Fred Funk = accuracy). Once you select a pro, you have the option of three or four videos lessons from these pros. Unfortunately, it can take a little time to load each video (30-60 seconds). However, if you have the time you can download all the videos in one go and have them readily accessible (note: this takes about 5-10 minutes). There are a total of 48 free videos. There are more than 250 additional videos that can be purchased at £2.99 per pro (each pro has up to 100 additional videos). The paid apps offer different angles of each swing and more in-depth view of the swings. Although you can take a video of your own swing, there is no ability to compare your swing to the pro's swings on the same screen which we thought we be beneficial.

Overall, the app is wonderfully presented with great visual appeal, but is just a little one-dimensional for us. Slow loading speeds, occasional crashes, a lack of audio and some overly complicated swing tips lessened our experiences with the app. Considering they do offer a free version, we would recommend it only for the die-hard enthusiasts.
