4.5 stars out of 5 (Based on 4 reviews)

The Ping S56 irons provide a workable and forgiving iron that can deliver consistent quality and performance throughout the set. The 17-4 stainless steel body is complimented by a variable tungsten in weight in the toe to provide the higher moment of inertia (MOI) that can deliver greater forgiveness and improve the location of the centre of gravity.

In the long irons this helps provide a higher trajectory while the deeper weight in the short irons provides a more penetrating and controlled ball flight. The shorter S56 irons also feature a slightly higher centre of gravity to provide the spin and control you need around the greens.

The Ping S56 also feature an enhanced vertical custom tuning port design that helps distribute weight to the perimeter of the club to help provide greater forgiveness throughout the set while a larger surface area enhances the all important feel.

Each S56 golf iron features a stabilising bar. By varying the width of the bar, narrower in the long irons and widening in the short irons, Ping have been able to precisely control the centre of gravity location in each club and help distance in the longer irons and control in the shorter irons.

By working closely with Ping's PGA Tour players the designers have also been able to incorporate a head design that reflects the shape, size and performance that better players demand from their irons.

The Ping S56 irons feature a classic and durable brushed silver chrome finish, can be easily adjusted for exact loft and lie requirements using the patented hosel notch and are fully confirming to the R&A groove rules. The S56 iron is available with the Tour leading True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft or the extremely stable KBS Tour shafts.

Ping S56 Irons Review

The Ping S56 irons, designed for better players, are solid, simple and sound great. The new tuning port in the back of the clubhead really helps the feedback in terms of sound and feel. The feel is soft and strong and the low-pitch sound mirrors that great feel.

The clubhead is smaller than most of Ping's irons and will certainly appeal to better players. The chrome finish is relatively dull but in a way that looks very appealing at address. Unlike most lower-handicap irons, the Ping S56's have curved edges and a more square overall profile that is synomous with Ping's better-player irons.

If you are in the market for a better-player iron, value feel and sound, and don't mind Ping's unique clubhead shape, the S56 is certainly worthy of your attention.
