The Ping i20 Hybrid's compact head and low centre-of-gravity are designed to launch the ball high and land it soft.

The matt-black, non-glare finish on the i20 hybrid helps improve confidence at address and eases alignment. John Solheim, Ping's CEO and Chairman says the new finish "allows players to focus without distraction... Our tour pros are very enthusiastic about the finish – but even more so about the i20s’ performance. Players are able to execute any shot they want with confidence.”

The Ping i20 hybrid features a straight leading edge and slim, compact, contoured head making aiming even easier. The face angle is set at neural, and sets up square improving workability. Ping have also increased the surface area of the i20 hybrid improving forgiveness and optimising ball flight.

Players can choose from two shafts for their i20 hybrid: the Ping TFC (Tip, Flex, Control) 707H for a low-spin, boring ball flight, or the lighter Project X Black by True Temper, offering a mid-spinning, higher trajectory.

Ping i20 Utility Club Review

Compared to the visually challenged i15, the Ping i20 hybrid is a site for sore eyes. Even though the head is a very similar size and style, the matt black finish gives it a completely different look.

But it is not all about the looks as the tungsten weights on the sole give a much better sound and flight than the previous model. The square set up makes it easy to shape shots and the i20 hybrid performed very well in an understated way. We think this is probably the best Ping hybrid since the G15 and will be ideal for the player used to fairway woods that perhaps has been turned off by the appearance of hybrids.

I ended up with a 20 and a 23 degree i20 rescue clubs more by chance than design. I had originally ordered a Mizuno utility club to replace my 3 iron but Mizuno were unable to complete the order (they ran out of heads!!). I tried nearly every utility club my local range had in stock but could not find one which gave me the feel of the Mizuno or the ease of hitting I was looking for.

The Pro then brought out an i20 which I loved the look of immediately: it looks purposeful, finished in matt black and to me it looked much easier to hit than the small fairway wood look offered by some utility clubs manufacturers.

Having previously tried an i20 driver though I was concerned that I wouldn't find them forgiving enough. How wrong was I? First shot and with a nice ping sound off the face the ball soared high and straight.

These clubs are so versatile that my 3 and 4 irons and 3 and 5 woods are largely redundant. I find that I can hit the 23 degree between 170 yds and 190 yds depending on how hard I hit it or if I am off the tee and the 20 degree takes me from about 190 to 220 yds.

These clubs are very versatile and have shaved a couple of shots off most rounds. They will be in my bag for a long time.
