The matt black finish and neutral set up of the Ping i20 fairway wood looks great behind the ball and a real feeling of confidence. Right from the first shot we loved the sound at impact, with a powerful, loud noise off the face.

Compared to the average fairway the Ping i20 has a low-profile that makes it great off the deck, but it feels a bit taller than the i15 and other ping woods of the past.

You can get your Ping i20 fairway wood with either Ping's TFC 707F shaft designed for low-spin and boring trajectory, or the lighter Project X Black shaft by True Temper that offers a mid-spinning, higher ball flight.

The tungsten weights on the sole give it a good penetrating flight and it was also very easy to work the ball both ways. The head size is on the right side of compact and the i20 seems a little more forgiving than most other better player fairways and is definitely one to consider for single figure players.

First thing your aware of is the matt black finish, with black shaft ... very 'Knight Rider' stealth looking and quite a contrast to the white headed finish of others sat on the shelf.

The club is nicely weighted and feels solid on impact, sitting nicely square on the ground at address. On the course I've been quite surprised at how quickly the ball gets airborne, the club cuts well through poor lies and that helps the ball fly well if you have put yourself in a tough situation.

I have only one compliant... it's gonna cost me more money to get the 23* version in my bag now too!
