The Ping i10 irons are designed to appeal to golfers who prefer the look of a smaller, blade-style club but still rely on the forgiveness of a cavity back.

The Ping i10 irons are very good looking clubs and we found them to be as forgiving as the slightly larger G10 irons. The heads are more compact than the G10, but apart from that there seemed to be little difference in performance. Both irons hit it very well and similar distances right across the face. A nice touch is the slight increase in offset as you move up the set to the long irons for a bit of extra forgiveness. The new AWT shaft is a delight to use and unusually for irons these days, the set comes with sand-iron option. However it is 54 degrees and more of a picthing club, so we would recommend a specific sand iron from Ping's dedicated wedge ranges instead as we weren't over impressed with this one. The Ping i10 irons will appeal more to better players as they have less offset and a narrower sole than the G10s. And herein lies our only concern. If these are aimed at better players, then unless they are Ping diehards or are used to cast irons, then we feel Ping may have an uphill battle competing against some very good forged irons in this market. As you would expect, the i10s feel a bit dead on impact relative to these irons, so on this basis they are going to lose a point, but if you are a 5-15 handicap player looking for a forgiving 'players' iron then the i10s combined with Ping's excellent custom fitting service are definitely worth a look.
