In the Ping G2 Iron Series, you'll find the latest PING technology in multiple options to match your ability. The stainless steel, perimeter weighted iron series consists of three models. The G2 - for golfers of all abilities, the G2 EZ - for golfers with slower swing speeds, and the G2L - for ladies with slower swing speeds. Also new are the G2HL (High Launch) irons (2-iron through 5-iron), which are designed to be blended in with other models to make long iron shots easier to hit. The extra-wide soled clubs provide a more forgiving bounce (which helps resist digging) and utilize a centre of gravity (CG) positioned away from the face to launch the ball higher. An undercut cavity helps increase inertia for maximum forgiveness. The loft of each HL iron is equivalent to its traditional version (i.e. 3HL = 3 iron). G2HL irons will also be sold separately. The multiple offerings within the G2 Series and the G2 HL long irons allow golfers to build a set that fits their game.

Ping G2 Steel Shaft Irons Review

The Ping G2 irons are a pleasant surprise. Gone are the clunky designs and instead there is this great looking club with loads of options for sole width, etc. The standard Ping G2 iron provides a good solid strike and it was easy to move the ball high, low, left and right. From above they look liek any normal game improvement set and it is only from below you see the notch just below the hosel. The HL versions had a very wide sole and were a bit clunky, so unless you have trouble getting the ball airborne, I would stick with the G2s. If you get your Ping G2 irons custom fit then every black weight on the club is matched to ensure consistency through the set to match your swing.

The Ping G2 irons were and OK and not the most solid through contact but they did send the ball out there and were very easy to hit.

Granted moving from Ping i3 blades to the Ping G2 irons wasn't exactly a leap of faith; I needed relief! I'd let myself get talked into the Ping i3 blades and quickly realized I had no business hitting clubs designed for scratch players. My normal handicap range is 8-10 but being on my way back from a 5 year golf layoff, I rushed a bit. Anyway, I got fitted for irons for the first time in my life, and decided on the Ping G2 irons; best decision I've ever made. These are the best irons I've ever owned, having floated between Pings and Cobras for years. My pro fitted me to a green dot with dynamic gold steel S-300 shafts, resulting in a complete change in club selection. I've gone +10-15 yards from sand iron thru 3-iron, and now hit my 9-iron 150 yards and the 3-iron 205-210. I've lost the roundhouse hook I'd developed and now hit a soft draw not to mention gaining control I haven't had in years. I can't imagine Ping's new G5s being any better than these; if they are, I won't know it for a while cause I love my Ping G2s. PS: I'm down to 14 from 17 when I got the G2s and expect to be at or better than a 10 by year's end.

I've owned my Ping G2's for two full seasons and I still haven't hit any other iron (including the G5's) that would make me want to switch. Since going to the G2's I consider a day where I shoot 79-80 a good day, and I've had a couple of even par rounds when my short game agrees. The main thing I like about the G2's is the consistency and distance control. I've played certain iron sets such as the Cleveland TA-5's where the stronger lofted short irons would often lead to exploded shots over the greens into trouble. The spacing of the G2 irons is just right for me. Getting fitted (1/2" long, Blue dots) helps a lot also.
