The PING G2 stainless steel fairway woods come with a new innovation called introduce variable sole thickness. This means that weight is moved towards the back of the club and positioned low to create less spin for added distance and a higher launch angle. The higher the club?s loft, the further back the weight and centre of gravity are moved. Playability is improved through the multi-radius lead edge. Similar to the lead edge technology introduced in the i3+ irons, the G2 Fairway wood lead edge lowers the face surface to improve the club?s movement through turf for more consistent ball contact. A larger, symmetric head shape and an improved hosel position provide visual comfort and confidence at address. The deep face of the G2 Fairway woods increases the club?s effective hitting area for more forgiveness. Each club also includes an alignment graphic on the crown to aid in addressing the ball. The JZ steel shaft is standard in the series and as with all Ping clubs, the custom-fit metal woods are available in three colour codes (lie angles) to match a golfer?s stance and swing for maximum performance.
The Ping G2 fairway woods have come along way since previous models and the G2 fairway wood is a very competant partner to the excellent G2 driver. The heads are relatively shallow and the extra weight at the back of the club gives a good solid strike and a penetrating flight. It wouldn't be a Ping club without a bit of quirkiness and here it is the hosel of the club which is set more on top of the head than normal. It's nowhere near as bad a previous Ping clubs, but it may or may not be to your taste. After a few hits you hardly notice it and apart from that we think this is a solid, classy looking club. As always with Ping's custom fit is the key to getting the most from it so head down to your local Ping fitter. A good buy, but if you have the cash then there are a couple of better models out there from Callaway, Yonex & Nike in our books.
