Boasting the highest moment of inertia (MOI) of any Ping putter to date, the Ping Doc17 is a milled aluminum putter features a semicircle shape. The over-sized putter’s body measures 17.02 centimeters (6.7 inches) and is fully machined from high-grade aluminum, creating precision lines and weight placement that expands perimeter weighting to new levels. Visually, the Ping Doc17 putter represents another major departure for a Ping putter. Technically, it follows our design strategy of continually pushing the limits of perimeter weighting and center of gravity location. Its shape really opens some doors for us from a performance standpoint. The semicircle shape of the Doc17 positions the majority of weight on the extreme perimeter and far away from the center of gravity to create an extremely high moment of inertia. The sole design keeps weight low and is contoured to provide a balance and feel that makes stroking putts of all lengths easier. In addition to pushing the technology curve, the new design measures right up to the proposed USGA limit on putter body length of seven inches. The Ping Doc17 putter’s electroless nickel-plated, finish creates a rich appearance and adds durability to the aluminum head. A light green Winn® AVS grip is standard on the face-balanced putter.

Ping Doc17 Putter Review

The Ping Doc17 putter is actually surprisingly light for it's size as it really is 17 centimetres long. It's a weird feeling having half a child's bicycle wheel at the end of your shaft, but the Ping Doc17 putter has a great feel off the clubface. The sheer size of the face and arc behind it make it very easy to line up and it is very well balanced. However you pretty much have to have the sole of the Ping Doc17 putter flat on the ground, which in turn means that you have to have your hands in the exact position the lie of the shaft has been set at. Ping can adjust this, but if you like putting with the toe up, then this is not the putter for you. At least you will very quickly know if your stance is out of line! Overall great feel, nice to use, but it won't be in our bag as the size of it is just too much.
