The Ping G2 fairway woods have come along way since previous models and the G2 fairway wood is a very competent partner to the excellent G2 driver.

The heads are relatively shallow and the extra weight at the back of the club gives a good solid strike and a penetrating flight and in our test the performance was very consistent.

It wouldn't be a Ping club without a bit of quirkiness and here it is the hosel of the club which is set more on top of the head than normal. It's nowhere near as bad a previous Ping clubs, but it may or may not be to your taste. After a few hits you hardly notice it and apart from that we think this is a solid, classy looking club.

As always with Ping's custom fit is the key to getting the most from it so head down to your local Ping fitter. A good buy, but if you have the cash then there are a couple of better models out there from Callaway, Yonex & Nike in our books.

The Ping G2 3 Wood is an above average fairway 3 wood. Smallish head which I liked and it sits well behind the ball. It also feels good through impact and you get a medium to high penetrating flight. Was as easy to hit off the deck as it was from a tee and both shots flew off at around the same height. It also looks good.
