Nike VR_S Covert Tour Fairway Wood

“Providing athletes with the tools to succeed is our ultimate goal.”

Those were the words of Nike's Director of Club Creation, Tom Stites. One of their latest tools is the Nike VR_S Covert Tour fairway wood.

The Nike VR_S Covert Tour fairway wood is the adjustable fairway option in the VR_S Covert range, featuring the same industry-first cavity back design, NexCOR face but with the additional FlexLoft feature. The VR_S Covert Tour stands out with the same bright, eye-catching red crown colour, paired with a black face (rather than silver on the standard VR_S Covert model).

The cavity back design allowed Nike to move the weight in the club to the corners to create more energy behind impact. Essentially, less overall clubhead weight, and more weight on the outside of the club, means more clubhead speed leading to more distance. The redistributed weight also makes the club more stable whilst also increasing MOI and forgiveness.

The NexCOR face is similar to the one found in the original VR_S models, and creates variable face thickness behind the clubface to create more speed and distance, specifically on the bottom half of the face (where Nike say they have found most golfers make impact).

The unique feature on the VR_S Covert Tour fairway is the FlexLoft technology. With a simple pull, turn, tighten system your VR_S Covert Tour fairway wood can be altered to a range of 4 degrees of loft, 13 to 17 in the 3-wood model and 17-21 degrees in the 5-wood model. The patented Dual Axis design means that loft and face angle are adjusted independently from one another.

Simply put, if you just adjust the loft of a standard fairway wood, you will impact the face angle. Increase the loft and you make the club more open at address. By creating Dual Axis adjustability, the Nike VR_S Covert doesn't have that issue and allows you to optimise your ball flight.

The Nike VR_S Covert Tour fairway is paired with either a stiff or regular flex Kuro Kage Silver 70 Shaft.
