Nike SQ Sumo 5000 Driver

The Nike SQ Sumo 5000 driver has further evolved the leading innovation of geometric design to bring golfers even more distance, forgiveness and accuracy through new record levels of MOI. The Nike SQ Sumo 5000 driver incorporate Nike Golf’s ground breaking geometric science, a design philosophy that has brought moment of inertia to the forefront in golf club technology. The MOI in the new drivers is the science behind straight and long – producing higher, longer, straighter and softer landing shots. The all-titanium Nike SQ Sumo 5000 features updated body shaping to raise its MOI to 5000 g-cm², resulting in greater forgiveness on off-centre hits. The driver also includes new variable weight shafts (55 - 73 grams) for increased head speed and a multi-thickness titanium face to improve ball speed over a larger area.

Nike SQ Sumo 5000 Driver Review

We were big fans of the previous Sumo driver so were very excited when the Nike SQ Sumo 5000 driver arrived. However we regret to say we were a little under-whelmed. The newer version has an extra 100 MOI but that seems to have made it noiser. The head is a little shorter front to back than the square version and a little taller so it gives you a lot of forgiveness yet still allows you to move the ball if you want to. The trajectory of the Nike SQ Sumo 5000 is lower than the square driver and more penetrating so better players will probably prefer this model. Still a very good club, but if you have the old version then stick rather than switch.

Nike are getting there with the SQ Sumo 5000. This is an improvement on the previous model and the quality of strike is there, but it just doesn't sound right. The noise at impact if anything has got worse, even worse than the square headed version. Also the ball doesn't seem to fly of the clubface, more of a dull dunt.

Well from going from hitting my old driver about 220 yards at the bounce, I'm now hitting about 250 yards and they are going a lot straighter. I bought the regular shaft so I don't have to give it all my might when teeing up at the start of a round. It looks good and sounds different but great
