Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit Driver

3.8 stars out of 5 (Based on 5 reviews)

The Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit is the longest and straightest driver offering from Nike and with eight adjustable face angles Nike aim to change the direction of modern driver technology. By continuing to push the boundaries of technological innovation the SQ Dymo STR8-Fit looks to revolutionise the way golfers are able to shape their tee shots to ensure maximum distance as well as pinpoint accuracy. The STR8-Fit technology offers the player eight customisable options for the position of the clubface offering the ideal solution for players who are looking to minimise the negative effects of hooks and slices or who are looking to promote a draw or fade.

The SQ Dymo STR8-Fit technology allows the golfer to manually adjust the clubhead into one of the eight different positions to produce their desired ball flight. There are three different clubhead positions for a closed clubface to encourage a ball flight to be shaped to the left; two ‘neutral’ positions that allow the player to work the ball in either direction and three ‘open’ positions for the clubhead that facilitates the ball being shaped to the right. These variations change the clubface angle from neutral to one of two degrees, closed or open. Additionally with each change in the position of the clubhead the lie angle also alters, offering the golfer even more chance to find the best position to deliver comfort and performance.

The SQ Dymo STR8-Fit comes with Nike Golf’s UST Proforce AXIV Core shaft as default (with weight options of 59 grams, 69 grams and 79 grams) that is designed for stability to allow golfers to swing faster whilst maintaining control of the clubhead at all times.

Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit Driver Review

The Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit driver is the adjustable version of the Nike SQ Dymo driver. The feel from the club face was very good, although it did not sound as good as the square version. However it did seem to go a little bit further than the square version and certainly looks a lot better at address with its classic lines. The STR8-Fit system is probably the best adjustable driver system we have come across to date. Rather than change the weight balance of the driver, the system changes the angle of the face to affect the bal flight. Nike say this can crate a maximum of 42 yards difference between the two widest tracjectories. Whereas other systems are quite subtle, you really could see the change in the shape of the ball flight with the Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit driver. It won' cure a raging slice, but if you are a fader or drawer of the golf ball then it can enhance or certianly reduce the effect of this on your swing. We would take this driver over the Square version of the Dymo STR8-Fit driver, but it is really down to personal preference.

I was excited to try out this club and although I was impressed with the ease of altering both lie and face angle to influence the shot I must say this driver is not for me. Although this version looked much better behind the ball than its squared counterpart I found the ball flight and sound a little disappointing and overall it seemed to lack a bit of feel and performance for a club at this end of the market. Saying that it was easy to adjust and the set up options are impressive and they did effect ball flight. If you are a lover of Nike drivers then give it a try as it may be for you.

I had hopes for the Nike SQ Dymo Str8 Fit because I really liked the SQ offerings. The adjustment system is not only easy to use but also makes a difference to your drives which offers evidence that this new trend in club design is moving beyond simple gimmickry and beginning to offer golfers real options. I felt the colour scheme makes the driver look quite clunky – I’m sure its intended to look stealth like and powerful but it didn’t really do it for me. The model I was using was fitted with a stiff shaft which was not really suitable for my swing. Because of that my swing and the impact with the ball was far less comfortable than I would expect from a Nike SQ. Despite all that the ball still travelled a distance that was, if not awe inspiring, certainly not disheartening and although not every shot was dead straight the wayward shots certainly made more of an effort to stay on line than some of my recent drives! All in all I expected more but with the right shaft I think this could be a real weapon in the bag.

I've had this driver in my bag for about 6 weeks now and really love it. I find it really easy to work and find it longer than anything I’ve tried recently. My only complaints would be that the sound and the feel which are more "artificial" than the old model and that I find it flies a little lower than the old SQ Sumo with the equivalent loft. However, I strongly recommend this driver to all players who enjoy the latest in technology that's easy to use.
