What The Manufacturer Says

Nike Golf Balls

The Nike One Platinum golf ball is the first ball designed to maximize the potential of larger headed drivers by promoting a higher trajectory and a lower spin rate. It features a Progressive Density Core with a soft centre and a progressively harder outer shell. This provides lower spin off the tee even with its soft outer cover. It is comparable to the Nike One Black, Nike's longest ball on Tour, in that regard. Similar to the Nike One Gold, the One Platinum is comprised of three layers or covers beyond the core. Each cover of the One Platinum has its own job to do: the Inner Cover, closest to the core, is designed to reduce spin off the driver; the Middle Cover provides superior mid-iron control; and the Outer Cover, softer than the Nike One Gold, promotes incredible feel around the green. The Outer Cover also features Nike Golf's proprietary 408 dimple pattern, the same one used on the Nike One Black. This particular dimple promotes a higher trajectory and more penetrating ball flight through the apex of the ball's trajectory. In other words, it descends at a less steep angle promoting more distance and roll. The One Platinum is not designed exclusively for drivers over 400cc; its distance off the tee, wind-boring control from the fairway, and responsiveness around the green will match any combination of clubs. Golfers who have made the move to a larger driver will experience the greater potential of the One Platinum.

What Golfalot Says

The NIke One Platinum is the ball we have been waiting for from Nike. We liked the Nike One Gold and Nike One Black for different reasons without being convinced by either. However we feel that the Nike One Platinum golf ball has the best bits of each ball. It has the distance and low trajectory of the Black without the firmness and it has the solf feel around the green of the Gold but with a little less spin. In our playing test we could not really fault it's performance in any way. The only thing that we could fault it for was when we got the grooves out with the short irons it did mark the cover, but without scuffing it. The cover seemed to be as good as it was before but the scorch mark was there, which Nike's leading competitor ball does not do. Best ball from Nike yet, but maybe not enough to make it top dog, but it's right up there.

I thought the Nike One Platinum golf ball is a great ball and it performaned just as well as my usual Pro V1. The best thing I can say about it is that I didn't notice much of a difference between the two. It performed in almost exactly the same way and even if I did manage to mark it with the odd wedge shot, it was still very playable. Will I be replacing my Pro V1s with it? Probably not as it is still missing that X factor, but definitely has taken over from the Callaway HX Tour and first choice alternative.

Slightly disappointed by the Nike One Platinum. I had heard great things about it and felt it didnt really compete with the Pro V1x, I found it hard hitting, which was great off the tee and went a long way. But it kept that hard feel in approach shots and chips. All my chips were running further than I had played for and the contact just felt a little clunky. Not bad overall, and I think it would be a great ball for a mid handicapper, but not the 'One' for me!
