Nike originally launched their Method Core range of putters in 2011, later adding the Method Midnight, Method Core Drone and Method Concept in 2012. Now, for the 2013 season, Nike are adding even more weight, literally, to their putter line-up with the Method Core Weighted putters.
Offered in five different head shapes (3 blades, 1 mid mallet and 1 mallet), the Method Core Weighted putters have two fixed weights in the toe and heel of the sole. The added weight is designed to draw weight away from the face, moving the centre of gravity lower and deeper in the clubhead. The redistributed weight helps produce a roll with less backspin and skidding.
We caught up with Nike's Master Modelmaker, David Franklin, who told us:
"Most people don't realize that they are about 3/10 of an inch above the ground at impact. You need to keep the centre of gravity of the putter as low as you can so that it never gets higher than the CG of the ball. This stops the putter from driving the ball down and creating backspin on the ball."
As well as the new weighted design, the Method Core Weighted putters continue with Nike's multimaterial Polymetal Groove face insert.
The blade and mid-mallet models (MC 01w, MC 02w, MC 03w and MC 04w) are available at 33, 34, or 35 inches whilst the MC 11w mallet is available at those lengths in addition to 41 and 43 inches.
