The Nike SQ Machspeed Black series of drivers are a significant improvement on the previous models. The drivers come in two head shapes round and square.

The Nike SQ Machspeed Black Round driver is for those who prefer a more traditional shaped driver and we it think looks very classy indeed.

The beautiful round head is taller than the square version and the centre of gravity has been moved further forward to allow better players to work the ball more easily. It certainly delivers performance to match the looks and it is everything you would expect from a better players driver with a great feel, good sound and medium high trajectory.

The Square version of the driver has a larger surface area and the sloping profile looked much smoother and less chunky than Nike's previous square drivers. Compared to square drivers of the past the trajectory was mid to high without excessive spin and the sound, whilst not music to our ears, was much better too. A definite improvement.

The SQ Machspeed Black comes with Nike’s straight fit hosel to enable you to adjust the face angle through 8 settings from 2 degrees open to 2 degrees closed.

It’s not the most user friendly adjustable system on the market, but it is very good at making significant changes to the shape of shot. We were little confused by this being on the square driver as it is really designed for forgiveness so you don’t need to change the shape of your shots unless, to quote Nike, you need to ‘correct some of the most devastating hooks and slices’.

Both shapes of the Nike SQ Machspeed Drivers are worth a look depending on your taste in head shape however we prefer the Round versio as we think that it is a much better all round club offering the complete package.

If you are in need of a Driver that hits the ball high and far, this may just be the one for you. I found that the ball flight was too high for my liking, but the feel was impressive. The new look black-square head will be a love-hate feature I am sure, but if you are not turned off by that, you may end up with it in your bag. I would love it for hitting on downwind par 5s, but I will stick with my SuperTri for the timebeing.

A week ago I purchased the Nike SQ Machspeed Black Square Driver after previously owning the 5900. I am an 11 handicap and 59 years old. First shot was 20 yards longer than my old driver and dead down the middle. I did notice that the flight was lower than my 5900 which is a great improvement. After 20 balls which all went in a small circle I was glad that I had made the purchase. I was fitted at the store and they were dead on. I did tinker with the shaft alignment -1, but changed it back to 0 when I consistantly drew the ball left. Straight is fine with me. I'm used to paying much more for a driver than I did on this. Nike has a sure winner here. I highly recommend this club.
