The Mizuno MX-700 Fairway Wood is a direct response to Tour players asking for better performance from their fairway woods along with their drivers. The MX-700 uses ‘hot metal’ (ES230 steel) to deliver the maximum level of performance from the smaller clubhead of a fairway wood. The result is a club with the accuracy and feel golfer’s expect from Mizuno with an appeal that will attract both professionals and club golfers.

Mizuno MX-700 Fairway Wood Review

Mizuno say that Tour players have been asking for better performance from their fairway woods as well as their drivers and the MX-700 Fairway wood is their response. Like the driver the MX-700 Fairway uses Hot Metal technology in its steel clubface to increase ball speed and as with the driver this means the fairway wood is extremely forgiving and delivers consistent results on even off centre hits. This forgiveness and consistency has seen Mizuno pitch the MX-700 Fairway as a direct replacement for those players who are unsure of taking their driver off the tee.

The MX-700 is a great improvement on previous Mizuno fairway woods which have lacked the feel to compliment their looks and performance. Both the feel and sound are excellent and most players will enjoy the classic zing sound at impact. The performance was also excellent with the club scoring highly for both forgiveness and accuracy although it may lack the workability that the better player demands. The design is also impressive and the understated looks mask the increased size of the clubface at address.

The MX-700 fairway is available as a 3, 5 and 7 wood and is certainly a great choice for the mid to high handicapper especially those of you wanting a fairway wood that will be reliable from the tee.

Mizuno claim the whole of the MX-700 range is suitable for golfers of all abilities – I’m not sure lower handicappers will be quite satisfied by the fairway wood but if they had a shaft fitted to their own specification then it may be more playable. For players like me, however, this club is ideal. Straight, long, good off the tee and easy to get up in the air it was a joy to play with.
