Mizuno MX-1000 Steel Shaft Irons

The MX-1000 iron from Mizuno features the companies Hot Metal technology, originally designed for their wood and hybrid ranges but now extended into iron design with the arrival of the MX-1000.

Mizuno say the MX-1000 is the ultimate club for those golfers looking for the perfect combination of both extra distance and extreme forgiveness. The revolutionary design delivers distances that push the boundaries of R&A and USGA performance limitations by the adoption of plasma welding a thin, hot, ES230 maraging steel face with a 431 stainless steel body, a process first used in Mizuno’s MP Fli-Hi utility iron.

The MX-1000 club head has a hollow construction which is combined with internal weighting to make even those unfortunate off centre strikes stay on line and hold their distance.

Mizuno also say that the weighting promotes a high ball flight which has allowed them to introduce stronger lofts throughout the set to provide each MX-1000 with greater carry of around 7 yards over the MX-950 iron it replaces. Combined with a lightweight D0 swing weight and the True Temper GS95 steel shaft, the Mizuno MX-1000 is a club for those needing some extra power for their irons

The hollow club head and internal Y-tune weighting enables the sweet spot to be moved lower and expanded further into the toe of the club. The bevelled leading and trailing edges effectively narrow the MX100s large sole plate for better interaction with the turf from a variety of lies.

What Golfalot Says

Mizuno’s Hot Metal technology has been a great addition to their woods and hybrids range and they have now extended the concept into iron design with the MX-1000 and it works. At address the oversized MX-1000 club head certainly inspires confidence and this is particularly noticeable in the short irons. The feel from the cast heads was not as soft as a Mizuno forged iron but it was good none the less. The trajectory of the short irons was a bit on the high side, but the long irons performed well and will give higher handicappers all the help they will need.
