Mizuno MP-630 Driver

The Mizuno MP-630 driver is the “naked” version of the Mizuno MP-630 Fast Track driver featuring the same attention to detail and technology without the adjustable weight mechanism.

The MP-630 is slightly open at address while internal weighting allows it to replicate the neutral position of the Fast Track version. The driver has been designed with a powerful pear shaped profile and a 445cc clubhead. The MP-630 is a club designed to inspire the best golfers from the tee but the tour ready profile is not daunting to higher handicappers thanks to the large clubhead and shallower design features.

Mizuno’s own Hot Metal technology features with the Titanium clubface and producing explosive speeds. This gives the Mizuno MP-630 the ability to both please shot makers and golfers who need or want more distance. The penetrating trajectory and low centre of gravity both help to convert the extra ball speed generated into the extra yards that make such a difference. The Cortech face design offers different thicknesses across the clubface to ensure that even off centre keep their shape, accuracy and distance.

The feedback and impact sound are impressive and the MP-630 is frequency tuned to ensure it provides the maximum feedback. The Mizuno MP-639 driver is a club that powerful ball strikers will love. With Mizuno’s lowest ever spin rates the MP-630 allows Mizuno’s Hot Metal technology to flourish while the slightly open profile at address gives the confidence to go for your drives while guarding against hooks.

What Golfalot Says

The Mizuno MP-630 driver has a larger 460cc head than the Fast Track version and a slightly deeper face. This gives it a very solid sound and feel at impact and a slightly lower ball flight than the Fast Track. The head is also a little deeper front to back but it still retains a classic look that better players will prefer. The performance of the MP-630 driver was excellent and it was very easy to move the ball left and right, which is important for this level of driver. The standard Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki shaft is a big improvement on the previous Mizuno driver shafts and provides excellent power although we are not sure about the predominantly white colour scheme. Overall it is very hard to fault any aspect of this driver and the MP-630 is certainly the best MP driver Mizuno has produced to date.

I was very keen to try the Mizuno MP-630 driver because I’m a big fan of the MX-700, a club that has stayed in my bag from the moment I first tried out. The first thing to say about the MP-630 is that it is a club aimed far more at the better players than my trusty MX-700. That caused me a couple of problem because the model I was playing was fitted with a stiff shaft and I always struggle with them and the club didn’t offer the higher levels of forgiveness that allow me to build some confidence with the big stick. I also wasn’t convinved by the white shaft – somehow it just doesn’t seem to look right but that’s a personal preference that in now way affects performance.

Anwyay enough of the negative comments. This is still a Mizuno club and it offers the usual level of workmanship and the head looks excellent at address. The sound when you catch one just right is also excellent and the ball really travels. It was also a very workable club. This would never replace my MX-700, but its not supposed. This is another stunning Mizuno effort but I’m unfortunately not in the target market. Hopefully I will be one day.
