Mizuno JPX-800HD Irons

4.5 stars out of 5 (Based on 4 reviews)

The Mizuno JPX-800HD irons combine the power and distance of the original JPX-800 iron with a high launching, more forgiving clubhead. The JPX-800HD irons feature a wide sole with Mizuno's new C-Grind, a larger off-set and thicker top-line. The clubheads progressively reduce in size from the longer irons to the shorter irons, whilst a high-energy pocket cavity is located on the 4 to 7 irons. The pocket cavity allowed Mizuno to design a thinner sole portion that promotes clubface flex increasing forgiveness. The lower irons (8-PW) feature a more solid design, created to improve control. The Mizuno JPX-800HD irons come with the Fujikura Orochi Dragon graphite shaft as standard.

Mizuno JPX-800HD Irons Review

The Mizuno JPX-800HD irons are like the standard JPX irons on steriods. The cavity and sole are much wider and this makes a the JPX800 HD irons very forgiving. The flight is a little higher than the standard iron but it still goes forward through the air rather than ballooning.

Mizuno say they have increased the COR to make the face as hot as possible and thanks to the bigger cavity, the ball speed off the JPX 800 HD face is a little faster. This results in the sound being a little more of a 'ping' at impact but this is not a bad thing as it still sounds pretty good.

These are an out and out game improvement iron as the large offset and wide sole will not really appeal to mid to low handicap players. However is was good to see the shorter irons were a little less chunky than is usual in these types of set.

For those who really struggle with their irons you can also blend in the JPX 800 HD hybrids from a 6 to 4 iron instead. These have a wood style head and are even easier to hit although the flight is a little higher still and give more of a draw bias, so we would recommend them to those who have a long iron phobia.

Price-wise they are towards the top end of the market, but if you want a game impreovement set from one of the top names in golf irons then the Mizuno JPX800 HD irons are well worth a try.

I got my brand new mizuno JPX-800 HD today. I must say they look stunning with the black shaft, the feel is even better. First impression at the driving range was great for a high handicapper such as myself.

Got my 800HD with graphite shaft in the early days of 2012. After nearly a full season I am happy with them. The shaft of the number 6 seems to be different from all the others, that is why I sorted this one out and do not use it. All the others clubs are great. Unbelievable long with every iron. Perfect for beginners. PW is still long, you need to order the GW and maybe the SW as well.

As soon as my swing and strokes become more stable, I will stay with the Mizunos and try steel shafts

At Hcp 20 - and not getting that lower during the last two years because I haven´t played to much, I needed to retire my John Letters Trilogy X12 Irons, and play somthing more forgiving and easier to hit.

Also to test the different golf gear dealers, I went to four different Gear pushers (two stores and two proshops, and I had swing analysed - and irons tested. I ended up with one recomending Yonex EZone SD vith regular graphite shafts, and three would recommend the Mizuno JPX825 and/or JPX800 HD. I then tested both sets over 9 holes, and the JPX800 HD with standard Dynalite steel shafts was the one that felt best.

>Alone the fact that 3 out of four club fitters recomended the JPX800 HD model (all with Dynalite) was enough for me to buy.

>I will have my new irons within 5 days - and I will keep you all posted about succes/failure.
