Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK Graphite Shaft Utility Club

The new Fli-Hi CLK with its lightweight graphite crown is designed to bridge the distance gap between conventional woods and irons. A deep centre of gravity makes the Fli-Hi CLK more forgiving than the traditional long iron, while the narrow body and short shaft give greater control than a fairway wood. A high launch angle and wide effective hitting area is created through the use of a lightweight graphite crown, allowing 15g of weight to move lower and deeper within the head. Versatility from a variety of lies is provided through a rounded cambered mid sole and blunted leading edge. The Fli-Hi CLK is more forgiving than the Fli-Hi iron and will suit players that prefer a fairway wood to a long iron. High flying, soft landing approach shots are generated by the Fli-Hi CLK's high launch angle and wide effective hitting area - created through a lightweight graphite crown, which moves 15g of weight lower and deeper within the head. In the Fli-Hi CLK and Fli-Hi iron Mizuno now boasts two utility clubs that appeal to different types of player. Mizuno believe that its original iron version is ideal for the players who like to work the ball. Whereas the new Fli-Hi CLK is a straight flying utility that makes forgiveness the priority. Mizuno's product development team suggest that the Fli-Hi CLK is ideal for tight tee shots, long approaches or even bump and runs around the green. With lofts from 17 to 23 degrees, Mizuno has created a utility that will find a hole in the bags of both professionals and amateurs.

What Golfalot Says

We tested the 17 degree stiff shafted version and found it to be an excellent substitute for a 1 or 2 iron. The club gives a penetrating flight and you can hit it high or low. It is designed to hit it as straight as your swing will allow and it works whether hitting off a tee or off the ground. The dark head looks great, especially with the graphite pattern discernable in certain lights. Wherever you hit it on the face you get forgiveness and great feedback. The forged head felt much better 'balanced' head through impact than some other clubs we have tried and it sounds great too. The shaft is a little shorter than some of the competitor clubs, which meant we did not get much more distance than say a 19 degree loft in another make, but it did make it feel more controllable, which at the end of the day is what the club is all about.

The Mizuno Fli-Hi utility club that is definitely much easier to hit than my 2 iron. Tried the 17' version and it did get the ball out there. Sits well behind the ball and once struck the ball come off the club head great with a penetration flight. Easy to hit from a tee or a tight fairway which gives you all the confidence you need.

There is no doubt the Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK is a good looking club and it sat well to the ball. The swing indicated that the Fli-Hi is a wellmade and balanced club. The shots from this 19 degree regular shafted sample flew with penetration. My results were not always consistent (very likely it's just me !) and it needed a steady swing to achieve real results. Good as a chipper from just off the green.
