GolfBuddy World Golf GPS Rangefinder

The GolfBuddy World uses many features of the World Platinum and also adds easy to use push-buttons to allow the user to quickly navigate through the unit’s interface. Designed to give maximum speed of use, World retains many of the previous features including: 40,000 course memory, Intuitive TFT touch screen, TouchPoint instant distance measurement, Direct Overhead Imaging for complete hole layout views, Pro Play game statistics recording & Stableford scoring, Pre-loaded global courses, Touch ‘N’ Move Flag, Dynamic Green Approach, a lifetime of fee-free, no subscription worldwide golf course maps.

With a bright, anti-glare 2.7inch LED screen, the GolfBuddy World offers golfers a single ‘green view’ gives exact distances to the front, middle and back of the green, while the World’s smaller size makes it more comfortable in the hand – especially with lady and junior golfers – and easier to slip into a pocket.

GolfBuddy European general manager, John Ennis, said: “We noticed that there are two different types of GPS users. There are those golfers who want a GPS device loaded with the maximum technology we can provide. Others want their GolfBuddy to simply give them the best information as they play and prefer to compare historical playing statistics online. The World Platinum is a larger, pure touchscreen model and is ideal for the golfer who wants their historical playing statistics at their fingertips, or who wants to record scores for all the players in their group during a round. World gives access to GolfBuddy’s menu system via buttons rather than through the touchscreen and saves scoring and shot details purely for the round being played, although the data can be stored online through the GolfBuddy Manager software.”

What Golfalot Says

The GolfBuddy World GPS rangefinder is a slimmer version of the World Platinum model and is therefore much easier to slip into your pocket if you want to. It also comes with a bag clip so you have the choice which is ideal as the Platinum is really too bulky for this. The screeen of the GolfBuddy World is facrtionally smaller than the Platinum but is a LCD screen which is clear enough even in bright light. In addition there are also a couple of navigation buttons under the screen on the World instead of a full touchscreen control which some may prefer.

The World uses the same TFT touchscreen as the other models and this is OK without being as good as an iPhone for instance and those with chubby bloke sized fingers may find it a little frustrating to move a flag on the green or work out a lay up distance. However using a tee or the larger menu buttons and screen icons is fine and the GolfBuddy World gives you everything you need.

Apart from the size the other main difference with the World version is that it can only store one round of statistics at a time on the unit and if you want to leep them then you have to upload them to your PC using the GolfBuddy Manager software. This is good in some ways as the data is secure if you were to ever lose the unit, but it can be a hassle plugging it in all the time, especially as it comes with an unusual usb connector that does not use the standard or micro usb fittings that most devices use at the unit end so you have to take this cable with you wherever you go.

Updating the courses is easy by downloading the GolfBuddy Manager software from the GolfBuddy website. The unit holds 40,000 courses so you only ever need to do this every so often to get updates rather than upload and download the courses you need. The power usage was good with the unit going 3-4 rounds between charges.

Unless you like to keep your stats over several rounds we would recommend the GolfBuddy World GPS over the World Platinum thanks to it size, the lack of any subscription fee and the fact that it is £50 cheaper too!
