The Cobra S3 Irons are designed for the golfer that wants superior all-round performance. The S3 Irons include E9 Face Technology and a multi-material design to optimise all-round performance in each individual iron. The E9 Face Technology creates a larger Sweet Zone for increased distance and accuracy. The Progressive Cavity Design optimises distance and feel by progressing thickness from an elliptical design for long irons to a more circular design for short irons. The weight of the Cobra S3 irons is distributed to optimise feel and distance through the multi-material construction, using a hidden internal polymer topline and full cavity TPU (thermoplastic urethane). In order to promote more consistent distance and accuracy, the S3 irons feature a Stepped Crescent Sole Design that narrows in the toe and heel to provide superior turf interaction.

The Cobra S3 Irons are Cobra's first introduction of a dark-headed iron. The multi-material steel clubheads feature a mix of stainless and black steel that combine to produce an iron that did not appeal to some of our traditionalist testers. However, after testing the Cobra S3s, we would advise those players to hit the S3s before passing judgement. The sexy look of the club head, both in your bag and address, inspires confidence and we thought the two bottom, white grooves on the clubface just added to the appeal of these irons. The oversized heads made the S3s very easy to hit and the distance and ball flight of the shots was great. The wide sole played more like a thinner soled club thanks to the camber towards the rear of the sole.
Our only gripe is the position of the iron number on the toe of the club. Perhaps designed to suit golfers in America who fetch their clubs from the back of golf buggies at eye level, it is too low on the club for those who would be using a carry bag or golf trolley looking down on the clubs and made finding the correct club a little harder than it needed to be. Despite this minor drawback, the Cobra S3 design was very impressive. The slight offset, sole and size make the clubs very easy to hit, yet the looks and performance will please even low to mid handicap golfers. Another great set of irons from Cobra.

I hope the black finish on these irons doesn't put people off because the Cobra S3 are great irons. I think they look good - especially at address - and the performance is certainly hard to fault. The size of the Cobra S3 clubhead inspires confidence and I found it was one of those irons that gave great results regardless of the person swinging the club. A nice sound and feel at impact and a ball flight that wasn't too high all add up to a club that is well worth trying out.
