The Cobra AMP Cell driver certainly stands out from the crowd with its eye-catching colours. We think the red will do well, but the blue came out top on an on-line straw poll of our social network users. Either way they look even better behind the ball than they do in the shop, so don't be put off by this and give them a go as it will be worth it.

However there is more than just looks to the AMP Cell driver and the main technology focuses on a wide range of loft adjustments. The previous AMP range had 3 options of open, closed and neutral. With the AMP Cell, Cobra have changed the settings to be loft based with a range of 8.5 to 11.5 degrees.

Now this is a wider range than most adjustable drivers go to and one of the reasons for this is the fact that when you change loft you can also affect the face angle. Cobra have got around this with the SmartPad which is a 1.5cm bar that goes right across the sole.

This gives the sole a single point of contact with the ground no matter how you align the face and the face 'pivots' around this bar as you change the loft so that the face always stays square whichever loft you use. This is quite a clever solution to this problem and means there are no contrived pads to adjust on the sole, it just works as it is.

Although the head looks a different shape and size to the previous Cobra AMP driver at address, it is in fact almost the same. The sound and feel is a little better and the flight with the lower lofts is good and penetrating. The higher lofts go a little higher as expected but again the flight is penetrating enough.

The 2 draw settings on the 9.5 and 10.5 lofts give the ball flight a slight draw, not a big sweeping hook, so that will be useful for all you faders out there. The neutral settings were pretty straight so anti-hookers will find them very playable too.

Overall this is a very good driver with a unique spin on the colour and adjustability angle. It may start off at the premium end of the market but even so is worth a try as variety of loft options are very flexible.

Was so fortunate to win one of these in a Golfalot caption competition. When the club arrived it just looked soooooo cool!! Being winter, and with not many courses open, the only option was to get it over the range alongside my existing 9.5 degree Taylormade R9.

With both clubs set up for a draw, the Cobra averaged 10-15 yards further, but it was the dispersion of the Cobra that really impressed me...so much straighter.

Was so looking forward to playing with it this summer, but a shoulder injury has put paid to that! Still reckon it will look and perform great next year though.
