The Cobra S3 Driver is the replacement for the previous S2 model and features Cobra's latest E9 Face Technology.

The E9 Technology has created a taller, elliptical shaped face that Cobra claims mirrors the impact patterns to increase ball speed where golfers hit most often. The clubface essentially has created a 30% larger sweet spot that favours shots from the bottom of the heel to the top of the toe.

In our tests, we felt the Cobra S3 felt more forgiving, especially off the inside of the club, than it's predecessor the S2 model and looked comfortable behind the ball at address.

The club looks great and will appeal to almost all levels of golfers. The head is rounded but does not look as skewed or stretched as some modern drivers do and the sound and feel of the Cobra S3 Driver were both very solid and just what you would expect from a top quality driver.

The adjustable hosel rotates through 3 positions which is a little limiting as other drivers offer more face angle options. However if you go for the 8.5 degree version be aware that it is 1.5 degrees more open than the other lofts and the ‘closed’ position is actually 0 degrees square.

A nice upgrade from Cobra and one for the list of drivers to try if you're in the market for a new long game weapon.

I've got two of these. I bought my first one with a regular flex shaft but then realised to get maximum performance a stiff shaft suited me better.

What I like about it is the combination of distance - at least 20 yards further on average for me with the stiff shaft over my old driver - and forgiveness. If you hit the drive off the toe or the heel, it still seems to end up going pretty straight. That must be down to the larger sweet spot that Cobra have talked about.

I used to have a slice and would regularly see the ball careening off into the bush, lake or car park to the right of the fairway. That hasn't gone entirely - I play off 19 - but this driver has given me a lot more consistency. With consistency comes confidence and being able to stand on the first tee of a competition and know that more likely than not you are going to keep the ball on the fairway and hit it a fairly good distance is a good feeling to have.

Cobra have brought out a few drivers since which may or may not be an improvement on the S3; I don't know, I haven't tried them. But this driver is now being sold at a discounted price so worth picking up if you're just starting out or struggling with an old driver.

The Cobra S3 driver looks great and performs even better. The new technology promised much and this time the boasts were delivered as I found the Cobra S3 to be extremely forgiving. This didn't come without sacrificing performance though and the S3 driver produced a penetrating ball flight with impressive distance.
