Cleveland Launcher XL270 Driver

Cleveland Cleveland Golf Clubs Cleveland Videos Read Reviews
4.5 stars out of 5 (Based on 4 reviews)

The Cleveland Launcher XL270 Driver reduces the weight in the three fundamental areas of the club to essentially produce the lightest driver possible: the clubhead, the shaft and the grip. The combination of all three areas produces a driver that is 270g (average driver is approximately 315g). The new 39g Miyazaki C. Kua Ultralite shaft is currently the lightest shaft on Tour and is standard on the Cleveland Launcher XL270. It uses an International Flex Code technology that measures the shaft's stiffness based on four different areas of the shaft: butt stiffness, mid-butt stiffness, mid-tip stiffness and tip stiffness. The Launcher XL270 even sports a WinnLITE grip that weights only 26g. The Cleveland XL270 Driver is also available in draw mode.

Cleveland Launcher XL270 Driver Review

The Cleveland Launcher Ultralite XL270 driver has one of the lightest shafts and combined club weights we have come across in a standard driver. The 270 gram club has a 39 gram shaft in it that is also an inch longer than normal at 46 and a quarter inches. This does give you more distance but it did not feel as easy to control, although the accuracy was pretty good. The club did feel very light but in a good way and the excellent Miyazaki shaft and 26 gram Winn grip both helped deliver a fun golf club. The slightly closed face may put some off at address but it did make it easier to get the ball airborne than its sister SL290 driver. It was great to see the classic Cleveland gold shaft back again and the cambered sole relief not only looked good but helped the club sit beautifully at address.

Wow. Even if you are not in the market for a new driver, it is worth while taking this driver for a spin. It is remarkably lightweight, and swings so easily that you can feel an increase in your swingspeed. The ball pops off the face high and far. A lot of fun to hit, but too light for my personal taste. I prefered the feel, (lower) flight and slight increase in control that I got out of the SL290. But Cleveland have really gone all out on this driver and it will add 15 to 20 yards to a lot of player's games.

Tried the Cleveland XL270 with a stiff shaft. Looking down on the head at address fills you with so much conficence and the head sits nice and square behind the ball not like some new drivers that 'toe-in'. The 460cc head does not look as big as some 460cc's out there, the face looked slightly deeper to me which I liked. The club does feel great. Hit a number of balls and the carry you get with the club is amazing, does carry a long way and I was using a 9 degree. I was hitting into quite a strong wind and thought the distance was really good, it must go a mile down wind. I did lack a bit consistency but I put that down to the slightly longer shaft, at 5'6'' found the shaft a touch long. I was hitting most shots slightly to the right, not a slice but more of a straight push but again incredible distance when you catch one right out the middle, think a regular shaft would be for me. All in all a great club, try one with the correct shat flex and loft and you wont be disappointed.
