Cleveland CG16 Tour Irons

The Cleveland CG16 Tour iron, designed for the better player, features a more tour-driven clubhead shape. The top-line and sole of the club are thinner than the standard CG16 irons, and the cavity back design is not as deep. The CG16 Tour Irons are created to offer improved control and workability for precise ball strikers. The groove technology found on the standard CG16 irons and CG15 wedge series are features also on the CG16 Tour Irons. The groove technology consists of 'zip grooves' that create 25% bigger grooves, creating the maximum conforming dimensions, as well as 'laser-milled' texture lines between each groove to increase surface roughness and improve spin control. The Black Pearl design standard on the Cleveland CG16 Tour Irons, along with dynamic golf shafts.

What Golfalot Says

The Cleveland CG16 Tour irons are definitely aimed at the better player. Not only because of the smaller offset than the standard CG16 irons, but also because it was so easy to shape shots whether deliberately or not! This is a good thing as better players will want that feedback from an iron. The CG16 Tour feels great to hit but also offers a high level of forgiveness from the generous sized heads for this level of iron. The face features Cleveland’s excellent laser milled face grooves and the black pearl finish looks very classy. Well worth a look.

Having never hit a black-finished iron before, I was a little skeptical about the look and feel of these irons. However, they did sit nicely behind the ball and performed well. The head appeared small to me, but offered the control and flight I was hoping for. Certainly, if you are interested in working the ball, and its flight, you would want to pick these irons over the standard CG16 irons. Overall, surprised...impressed....but not reaching for my wallet.

The Tour version of the CG16 Iron has a relatively small clubhead but with the dark looks seems to sit nicely behind the ball. Despite the relatively small clubhead confidence soon flowed and shops were easy to hit and shape with a nice penetrating ball flight. Overall am impresseive addition to the Cleveland range.
