5 stars out of 5 (Based on 2 reviews)

The Cleveland CG16 irons are designed to play like wedges, just longer. The irons are lighter, longer and stronger. Lighter clubhead techonology merges with stronger lofts to create longer performance. The large cavity in the back of the clubheads positions the centre of gravity 10% lower and 75% deeper, producing higher and more forgiving shots. In addition to strengthening the lofts, the CG 16s now mark the loft on the sole of the club, allowing players to understand that gaps between their clubs and gap-fit their irons, and their wedges, to their own specific game. The Cleveland CG 16s also now use Cleveland's 'zip grooves' technology, and 'laser-milled face' technology. This technology, first used on the CG15 wedges, creates the maximum conforming dimensions within each groove whilst adding four additional (laser-milled) texture lines between each groove. Together they increase the club-to-ball friction and create increased spin.

Cleveland CG16 Irons Review

The Cleveland CG16 irons are aimed at mid-handicappers but we think a few single figure golfers will like them too. The thick top line may give the feel of game improvement irons but they don’t feel that chunky, even though the sole is wider than the CG7s they replace. The offset is there but again is not too great and even though you can just see the back of the cavity on the longer irons, it is still quite subtle. The face features Cleveland’s excellent laser milled face grooves and the lightweight steel shaft makes them very easy to swing. The lofts are stronger than normal with the wedge coming in at 44 degrees, but Cleveland say that this is to facilitate ‘gap fitting’ so that you add the right combination of their excellent wedges into the set. The large thin face and undercut cavity design makes then effortless to hit and very forgiving. Indeed compared to the CG16 Tour irons which you could shape at will, the CG16 were arrow straight and a joy to hit. Well worth a try.

Fantastic clubs. Played with my CG16's for the first time yesterday and they feel so sweet, no mishit shots and they are long. Having used Ping i3's for the past few years I really noticed the difference. Recommend these clubs to anyone.
