The Cleveland CG16 Black Pearl wedge looks very similar to the CG14 wedge but without the insert and it is not surprising given that it comes from the same mould. However the colour insert has been replaced with a cavity back and this not only looks better but also improves stability and forgiveness on off-centre hits. Compared to the excellent CG15 wedge the leading edge is less rounded and the sole is wider. Cleveland say that this style of wedge is very popular on Tour, especially in the sand iron lofts. However we were not as keen as the extra forgiveness has meant a trade off on feel, which is not as crisp as the CG15 wedge and the wider was not as effective on softer lies.
