Cleveland 588 Altitude Irons

Cleveland Cleveland Golf Clubs Cleveland Videos Read Reviews
4 stars out of 5 (Based on 1 reviews)

The Cleveland 588 Altitude irons, like the name suggests, are hybrid-irons designed to get the ball higher and further for players with slower swing speeds.

Much like the previous Cleveland HB3 irons, the progressive hybrid-iron set blends in size throughout the set to offer better playability and performance. Each club features a Full Hollow Construction that allowed Cleveland to move the weight of the clubs to position the centre of gravity 13% lower and 121% deeper than a typical game-improvement iron. This produces a better, easier launch for players with slower swing speeds looking for more distance and forgiveness.

To maintain feel and enhance ball speed, Cleveland have used a forged face on the 588 Altitude irons. Each club has a forged face to offer that soft forged feel in a game-improvement iron. The Altitude irons are further benefited by a bendable hosel that allows each irons to adjusted as much as 3 degrees upright or 2 degrees flat, to better suit different swing types.

Cleveland have launched the 588 Altitude irons along with 588 MT and TT models. Players can customise or mix-and-match their set to suit their game, perhaps favouring more compact, traditional shorter irons (TT) with more forgiving, higher launching long irons (Altitude or MT).

Cleveland 588 Altitude Irons Review

When Cleveland called this irons the Altitude they weren't kidding. However this does not mean it balloons it up. What it does mean is that it will make it easy for those with low swing speeds to get the ball up in the air quickly and easily.

It maybe stretching it to call the Altitude a set of irons as they are visually a bit more like iron shaped woods given their deep rounded heads. The 3 and 4 'irons' are definitely more like hybrids and the head could possibly be a little longer as the styling goes a little awry here, even though they do the job very well.

The mid irons are very good for this level of club with a good size head and not too much of the wood styling on the back. However for the 9 iron and below it may be worth switching in the Cleveland MT irons that will be just as forgiving and maybe a little easier to use.

The extra size in the head gave a nice 'zing' sound at impact and the feel from the face was very good. Cleveland are known for forgings and with this carrying the 588 name it does have a forged face, but this is a bit of overkill in this type of club despite it being a good selling point.

Overall if you are a senior golfer or a slow swinger of the club then using most or all of the Cleveland Altitude irons in your set will certainly get your ball reaching new heights on the course.
