Callaway X-24 Hot Irons

4 stars out of 5 (Based on 2 reviews)

The Callaway X-24 Hot irons are the longest and most accurate irons in the history of the company's hugely successful X-Series range, with the X-24 Hot delivering faster ball speeds across the clubface for maximum distance throughout the bag.

Callaway designers have introduced the new stealth PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) finish to the X-24 Hot to reduce glare and an impressive, darker look. The X-24 Hot irons also feature Callaway’s VFT Face Technology, a 360-degree undercut channel and a precise centre of gravity to create a large and performance driven hitting area for golfers of all abilities.

Developed for golfers who are looking for a distance gain through the entire set, the X-24 Hot irons also utilise Callaway’s core technologies including S2H2, Precision Notch Weighting and Modified Tru-Bore. The X-24 Hot is a technologically advanced iron that has resulted in a longer and more accurate set than any of its predecessors. The X-24 Hot iron is available with either the Callaway X-24 Uniflex Steel or X-24 Graphite shafts.

Callaway X-24 Hot Irons Review

The Callaway X-24 Hot iron is the worthy successor to the X-22 iron. As you would expect the X-24 Hot continues the same design styling as the X-22s with the deep undercut cavity, standard offset and medium-thick topline on the face. Callaway have branded this a 'Hot' version as they claim to have made the face a little thinner to transfer more clubhead speed to the ball and it certainly delivers. The forgiveness is very good and the X-24 Hot irons are a joy to hit, giving solid, great feeling shots right across the face. The Callaway graphite shaft felt very stable and these irons will suit everyone from high single figures upwards.

In addition to the small technological tweak, the main differences with the Callaway X-24 Hot iron are cosmetic with a ferule fitting on a longer hosel, which is unusal for Callaway irons, but should help with stability. The dark PVD finish looks excellent and we were pleased to see that it maintained its appearance even after a heavy session on the range, so it should last for a while. The orange styling of the Callaway X-24 Hot iron may not be to everyone's taste but we like the fact that the iron number is just on the sole and no longer on the face of the club so that your opponent does not know what club you have hit. All small things, but they come together well in a stylish head that delivers excellent performance that will be hard to beat in the game improvement category.

The Callaway X-24 Hot irons make a decent first impression, they certainly look the part with the dark PVD finish complimenting the burnt orange graphics very well.

I was using the graphite shafts, never my personal preference, but the overall quality was impressive. The shorter irons were very impressive and the wedges were particularly good fun to hit. Moving through the set I became less enamoured although this was partly because I'm not very comfortable with the graphite shaft rather than a problem with the clubs themselves.

The certainly inspire confidence, at address the X-24 Hot irons look like they are going to offer forgiveness and they don't disappoint when you hit the ball. My one complaint would be that they don't feel very alive when you hit the ball, they do the job of a quality game improvement iron but I feel others on the market deliver a bit more oomph. But that's personal preference as much as anything and certainly doesn't detract from the Callaway X-24 Hot's ability to do its job very well.

Overall the Callaway X-24 Hot irons are excellent choices if you're in the market for a game improvement iron that will deliver effortless shots. I'd love to try them out with a steel shaft because, while it's not going to top my list of game improvement irons, they certainly have a lot to offer any golfer struggling with their irons or wanting to take their game a step forward. And they really do look great!
