Callaway Tour ix Golf Ball

4 stars out of 5 (Based on 2 reviews)

The Callaway Tour ix golf ball is the most technologically advanced tour ball ever developed - incorporating perimeter weighting to increase the ball's MOI. Innovative 4-piece inertia technology utilizes a tungsten-infused outer core to shift weight away from the center of the ball, reducing driver spin for maximum distance and straighter shots, and a softer inner core for unparalleled tour feel. The softer urethane cover generates more short-game spin for precision control and aggressive shot-making and refined HEX Aerodynamics further increase distance by reducing drag. The Callaway Tour ix shares the same technology with a slightly firmer construction for more explosive distance.

Callaway Tour ix Golf Ball Review

Callaway claim the Tour ix golf ball is the softest and longest ball they have made to date and in our playing test, distance was not an issue. The Tour ix ball has a modified Hex dimple pattern and this maintains it's advantage in the wind, where the flight is very stable. On and around the green the ball is a little firmer than the Tour i and the sound off the putter was a little hollow, even if the feel was good. Other than that, this is a great ball.

I was keen to try a new ball to differentiate me from the Pro-V1 crowd. On the advice of my pro I tried the Tour iX. In terms of performance, it's hard to fault. The spin rate is clearly low off drives as the flight is long and penetrating and the spin from fairway/greenside to green is excellent. The problem is it feels unbelievably hard off the club face compared to a Pro-V. It's horrible in fact. I can't understand why, as the skin is clearly soft. Maybe it's the titanium? Very strange. 10 out of 10 for performance, but 3 out of 10 for feel. I've gone with the TaylorMade TP red instead.
