Callaway Odyssey Metal-X Putter

The dilemia: create a traditionally performing Odyssey putter with a crisper, more metallic feel off the face. The answer: The Odyssey Metal-X putter,

The Metal-X is the latest development in Odyssey pushing the boundaries of putter design. The Metal-X range has been developed thanks to feedback from tour players. Their input highlighted the desire for traditional Odyssey performance but with a more metallic feel from the face.

Odyssey incorporated a lightweight aluminium face backed with a layer of urethane, allowing the optimum distribution of weight in all the Metal-X models. The new face delivers a crisp strike whilst maintaining the softer feel and optimal touch associated with Odyssey putters.

Odyssey pulled out all the stops in the Metal-X range to optimise the performance from the club and have introduced a key feature to the face for optimal feel. The Metal-X putters have a unique face pattern consisting of oval depressions that create a mechanical lock with the dimples of the golf ball at impact. This creates more friction that results in a lower launch and optimised topspin to reduce skidding and ensure the truest roll through steady ball deceleration.

The Metal-X putters have a sleek midnight black finish following tour feedback to increase durability and reduce glare on sunny days. The core offering of the Metal-X putters from Odyssey include the #1, #6, #7, #8 #9 and Rossie models that offer a range of head shapes from traditional blade to mallet to cater for all personal tastes and the #7 model is available as both a Belly and Long putter with the #1 also being offered as a Belly Putter.

All of the Metal-X putters come with a Lamkin 3GEN Pistol grip which is made of the softest synthetic rubber compound to reduce vibration and enhance feel, allowing golfers to apply light grip pressure for smooth consistent strokes.

My putter last season was pretty poor and like many, I blamed my tool. I wanted to improve the feel and consistency of my putting.

Read a couple of review on Golfalot, waggle a few putters in shops and decided on the Odyssey Metal X #7. The darker colour looks awesome behind the white ball, and the simple alignment lines make lining up short putts much easier.

The feel is hard to describe, but it's sort of crisp, sharp and strong. The ball really pops off the face and 'ting' feel is far more consistent than my past putters.

For some reason, I don't like the anser shaped Odyssey putters much. I find them a little too rounded and soft looking. After seeing Luke Donald and Poults holing everything in sight with the #7 model, I thought it was probably good enough for me.

This putter has really improved my putter and my confidence. Worth a try if you are shopping around!
