Callaway Forged Wedge

The Callaway Forged wedge is designed for maximum spin and versatility, and forged for precision.

The Tour-Inspired shape created by Roger Cleveland features a traditional high toe, straight leading edge profile for a square look at address. The 21 tightly spaced Tour CC grooves provide distance and trajectory control thanks to Callaway's Triple Net Forging process. The 2012 Callaway Forged Wedge's softer, more gradual 'C' shape relives the heel of the wedge and reduces the width of the sole providing versatility and pinpoint shot making. The new shape effectively reduces the bounce angle when the face is laid open, promoting better contact and maximum spin control.

The 2012 Callaway Forged Wedge is offered in a smoky, Trivalent Dark Chrome finish designed to reduce glare, or alternatively a Copper finish that is new to Callaway. Each wedge is paired with a specific bounce angle to provide optimal turf interaction and versatility.

What Golfalot Says

The Callaway Forged wedge has a firmer feel than the Jaws wedge, although the Forged wedge is not a replacement as the two lines will run together for now.

The 2012 Forged wedge head shape is lovely and a good size without affecting playability. Callaway say they have removed some weight from the face near the hosel and then placed this higher on the back of the club to give a higher centre of gravity for a more penetrating flight and it seems to work.

The modified C grind on the sole of the club does not stand out as much as on the Jaws wedge but it still makes it very easy to open the face on even the lowest lofts without increase the bounce too much, although we found it was better to do this and aim for the inside of the face at impact.

The face now has 21 grooves more tightly spaced as Callaway say they prefer to have 'more teeth' from the extra edges to impact spin. At address you can really notice the extra lines and they are very effective from the fairway and around the green.

The Callaway Forged wedge is an all round good performer and will probably suit mid to low handicap players who prefer a forged feel. Now that the Forged version goes down to 48 degrees it offers a real alternative to the standard set wedge for better players. Compared to the Jaws wedge the loft numbers are bigger and clearer on the sole which is a welcome change. The clean classic looks are very classy in the satin chrome or the copper finish, which will scuff up quite easily to give you some nice wear marks on the face if you like that sort of thing.
