Looking into the technological distance is something Callaway usually do in house with drivers, but now they bring this to the course with the 300 Laser Rangefinder.

At just 215 grams it feels light to hold and the compact size will fit easily into most golfers' hands.

With lasers there is usually not much more required than point and shoot so the Callaway 300 has everything you would expect from a quality laser.

The eyepiece focus can be adjusted to suit your level of vision and from there all you do is point at the target and push the power button on top.

This brings up some crosshairs and within good time it shows you the distance to the flag or whatever else you have lined it up on.

The distance can be shown as yards or metres using the mode button on the top. The numbers are a good size even though the style of the display is a bit functional.

The 300 Laser uses Pin Acquisition Technology (PAT) to pick out the flag from other objects behind it like trees and it does this as well as others in the market.

Callaway 300 Laser

Callaway claim a range of 300 yards for picking up a flag and I did manage to pick out one at 299 yards, so I will concede them the last 3 feet.

Callaway 300 Laser

The 300 picked up short and mid range flags easily, but flags around and above 200 yards required a few attempts, particularly if the flag was fluttering a lot. Compared to other lasers that are around the same price, the 300 was not quite as slick in this regard and it got a little frustrating over time.

It takes a standard CR2 battery that is inserted into the battery compartment on the back of the device. This is unscrewed with a flip up handle and is easy to use as well as keeping the battery secure.

The Callaway 300 comes in its own protective case with a loop for a bag strap so you can attach it to your bag if you want.

The case has a magnetic pad under the flap to keep it closed between uses and allow easy access.

Callaway 300 Laser

Overall the Callaway 300 is a competent laser that is well made. I particularly like the soft casing as these things inevitably get dropped. It is not completely shock proof, but it will probably save your investment if you drop the device on a hard surface.
