Adams say that the Speedline Super S fairway wood is meant to be a hybrid styled fairway and its sleek looks do give it that feel. The head has a lovely profile both from above and from the side that looks very aerodynamic, just like the driver.

The aim is to give the fairway a style that hugs the ground and the enhanced camber across the sole from front to back and heel to toe really helps to allow the Super S to glide through the grass. We hit it from a variety of lies and whether on the tee or from light rough it performed very well indeed.

The most noticeable feature of course are the slots in the crown and sole of the clubhead. Even though they are now owned by TaylorMade, Adams were the first to intrdoce slots into woods a couple of years ago.

The slot cannot go through the head completely, so the slot in the crown is there to increase the launch angle without increasing the spin. The slot in the sole is filled in with a PVC material and increases the ball speed for more diistance as the face has similar performance characteristics to most drivers .

Both of these slots combine to give the Super S fairway a slightly higher flight than usual, but still with a very pentrating flight. The most noticeable thing for us was how stable the club felt at impact resulting in a lot of forgiveness and a lovely sound too.

Like the other Super S woods, the shafts were light and possible a little softer than their flexes indicate. If you normally use a stiff shaft then the extra stiff may give you a better flight without being unplayable, so make sure you get properly fitted for the right combination of shaft and loft.

You can see the TaylorMade heritage in the white crown colour and graphics which are a little more subtle than their parent company's current version. The sole has a black PVD finish that is mirrored on the sole and brushed on the face to give a quality look to what is a very good looking club.

For the level of performance and the technology in the head, this is a very competitively priced fairway wood and we would strongly recommend trying out the Adams Super S fairway as you will probably be very pleasantly surprised.

I am a low striker of the golf ball , I really struggle to get a 3 wood into the air. Therefore for the last 5 years there's been just a 5 wood in my bag , but that all changed last week when a friend gave me his 3 wood Adams speedline , holy moley its just so easy to hit I am pounding it out there so easy so high and so long and so so forgiving , I don't even have to think about it , just take it back and have a lash , oh my god its just amazing
