When we spoke to TaylorMade player Jon Rahm recently he told us how impressed he was with the company's new Prototype irons.
Now everybody can take a look as TaylorMade has released the P770 irons and P750 Tour Proto irons to the world, saying the new irons deliver purist performance in a modern design.
Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade's Senior Director of Global Irons explains:
We spent countless hours working with PGA Tour players to develop the most complete players iron we have ever created. Drawing inspiration from some of our most successful irons, P770 challenges the status quo of what a players iron should be.
TaylorMade P770 Irons
In the P770 irons, TaylorMade engineers endeavored to deliver a true Tour iron for highly-skilled players while simultaneously providing playability improvements that create a great playing experience for the better player.
Forged from 1025 Carbon Steel the P770 irons have an elegant design tailored to a better player's eye. The forging incorporates a new multi-step process using a 2000-ton press, three times more forceful than a standard forged press, ensuring perfect head shaping with minimal hand polishing. The result is a pure players iron with soft, solid feel.
The 3-7 irons have a tungsten back bar that gives a low, perfectly centred CG as well as increasing MOI. As a result the P770's give players Tour-calibre workability with an added forgiveness. The 8-AW have a one-piece forged cavity back construction for added feel and control.
CG is lowered by developing a shallower face profile, shorter hosel and 70-gram tungsten back/sole component. Engineers also utilised a tapered face thickness profile, whereby the upper portion of the face is thinner for low CG but thickened in the bottom portion near impact for a soft, solid sound and feel.
The refined shape and sole geometry of the P770 irons are a direct result of Tour player feedback. A thin topline and a progressive offset gives the irons a clean look at address whilst a flatter, medium cambered sole and a tighter leading edge improve turf interaction.
The face and grooves have been milled to meticulous standards to meet the demands of the best ball strikers and produce optimal spin and exceptional control.
TaylorMade P750 Tour Proto Irons
The P750 Tour Proto irons raise the standard by providing superior performance and feel in a design that delivers optimum workability for the best ball strikers.
The P750 Tour Proto is a forged blade with shallow cavity, made of 1025 carbon steel, is created using a new, multi-step forging process which culminates with a high tonnage strike.
This process ensures precise, near-net head shaping requiring minimal hand polishing, resulting in a pure players iron with soft feel. The face and grooves are CNC milled for high precision, as is as the back cavity of the iron. The extra step of milling the cavity ensures that the face thickness, CG position and weight distribution are maintained to the highest standard demanded by the best players.
P750 Tour Proto irons feature a thinner topline than the P770 and minimal offset for a blade-like look preferred by TaylorMade Tour players. Additionally, the P750 Tour Proto irons incorporate a narrower sole and tighter leading edge for improved turf interaction. Similar to the P770, P750 Tour Proto includes tungsten weighting (5 grams precisely located in the sole) in the 3-7 irons that allow for perfectly positioned CG for optimal trajectory and shot-making.
