If you could buy a putter that effectively makes the golf hole 140% larger it would be a no brainer, right?

Well, according to Callaway you can, as they unveil the new Odyssey EXO range of high MOI mallet putters with the claim that an increase in MOI of 40% translates to a much larger target thanks to the increase in ball speed consistency across the face.

This means that those putts you mishit and which would normally come up short or fade to the low side as they lose speed now maintain the speed and direction needed to reach the cup.

All three putters in the EXO range have an MOI in the 5,000-6,000 range and to reach this level without the size becoming unwieldy, a traditional problem when designers have tried to increase MOI in putter heads, Odyssey's designers have turned to a multi-material solution.

The centre of the heads are milled from aluminium, which is 1/3 of the weight of steel, meaning a lot more of the weight in the head can be concentrated in the stainless steel perimeter of the putter, resulting in a much more stable head. For example, the Odyssey Seven EXO has a 50% higher MOI than the traditional Odyssey #7 head shape.

Not only does the centre section save weight but the striking red design contrasts with the black perimeter of the putter to aid alignment and give the EXO models a distinctive look.

Sean Toulon, General Manager of Odyssey Golf, explains:

Red putters in a way have reinvigorated the market, whilst Black putters are more timeless, and now have a family of super high-MOI designs that incorporate both colours so beautifully.

Odyssey EXO is the culmination of some of the best looks and technology and the putters look amazing. Our Tour players love the sound, they love the feel and the cosmetics are striking.

Thanks to the weight saving aluminium construction each head is engineered slightly bigger than the original Odyssey designs, with two classic head shapes in the Rossie and Number Seven joined by the more recent Indy, first featured in Odyssey's Toulon Design family of putters.

All three models feature Odyssey's new White Hot Microhinge Insert, a slightly firmer Tour developed insert with an identical feel to the classic White Hot insert, with Odyssey's Microhinge technology giving a pure roll from impact.

To give the putters a premium look each EXO putter is skim-milled, a light, yet precise milling process that produces refined edges and corners in the head as well as giving the surface a distinctive sheen and feel. The three designs are also offered in either face-balanced or toe hang 'S' slant neck models meaning that golfers can match their favoured design with their putting style.
