It was exactly one year ago that Odyssey launched their innovative and unique Versa putters. The contrasting white and black look proved popular with Tour players and amateurs and so for the 2014 season, Odyssey have a few new models to add to the Versa range.
The first new model that have announced is the Jailbird. Featuring Odyssey's Double Versa Technology, the large, high-MOI putter is designed to be easier to align, more forgiving and produce a smooth, consistent roll.
Much like old-style jail uniforms, the Jailbird features Versa's eyecatching black and white contrasting colours. Whist most Odyssey Versa putters feature just three alternating colours, either white-black-white or black-white-black, the Jailbird's large head size features four vertical colour changes, adding even more contrast and alignment-aid at address.
Odyssey conducted a number of tests to gauge how effective the contrasting look was and their results are pretty impressive. They found that over 50% of players aligned better at address with the Double Versa Technology, whilst almost 70% aligned more consistently. As for impact, almost half the testers improved the angle of their impact with nearly 75% of them improving their consistency.
“Versa Technology has been a revelation and new ‘Double Versa’, featuring in the Jailbird model, pushes its effectiveness even further. All golfers, whether a Tour pro or game enjoyer, can immediately see how their putter is aligned to the target, improving confidence and ultimately keeping more putts on line and hitting the back of the cup!” said Austie Rollinson, Principal Designer at Odyssey Golf.
As with the original Versa models, the Jailbird features Odyssey's latest White Hot insert. Re-engineered to produce a more consistent sound, feel and performance the insert is fitted to the face thanks to a laser milling process ensuring it matches the shape of the cavity in the face. Each insert is specifically designed for the individual Versa putter model.
