The Nike VRS Covert irons extend Nike's VRS Covert range of driver and fairway woods, and are the latest product in Nike's Victory Red (VR) series of clubs.

The VRS Covert replace the VR_S irons and are the latest cavity back irons from Nike built for speed. The name Covert comes from the cavity back technology being hidden 'covertly' in the back of the clubhead, designed to give the iron a sleek look with no bulky cavity visible at address.

Nike VRS Covert Iron

Nike claim the VRS Covert irons are the most versatile iron they have made and will appeal to a broad range of players. The High Speed Cavity Back is engineered to maximise distance as well as control and forgiveness. The weight removed through the cavity back has been moved to the corners of the clubhead, increasing the MOI (or Moment of Inertia) and thereby increasing the forgiveness and distance of shots struck away from the centre of the face.

The VRS Covert irons benefit from Nike's NexCOR face technology. Designed to offer faster ball speed and longer shots, the NexCOR face varies thickness behind the clubface to focus on increasing the size of the sweet spot on the face, not just in the centre of the face but also in the lower/toe portions of the club where most golfers tend to make impact.

Nike's R&D engineers have created a new dual bevel sole for the VRS Covert iron. The sole, which sits the club low to the ground, cuts through the grass cleanly and prevents the sole from digging.

To get the inside scoop on the Nike VRS Covert irons, we heard from Nike's Director of Club Creation, Tom Stites, who said:

"We combined a High Speed Cavity Back, NexCOR technology, and a dual bevel sole to maximise distance for every club in the bag. Golfers will notice positive improvements not only on crisp shots, but on off-centre shots as well."
