When you hear Ferrari, what do you think? Fast cars, Formula 1, Italian style, prancing horse? What about golf clubs?

Well, thanks to the new Ferrari Golf Collection, that might be the case from now. Engineered by Cobra Golf, Ferrari have launched a collection of golf equipment, apparel, footwear and accessories, designed to be both stylish and technically advanced.

Ian Poulter Ferrari Golf

Ferrari and Cobra Puma invited us to the launch of the collection early this year at the Ferrari showroom in Knightsbridge (yes, quite a venue for a launch!). There we were introduced to the collection and were able to touch, waggle and feel the products up close.

Ferrari driverThe first thing everyone wanted to get their hands on was the new Ferrari driver. Developed by Cobra equipment engineers and Ferrari's SpA aerodynamics engineers, the driver is based on the Cobra ZL Encore driver and designed to deliver faster club head speed and exceptional distance.

With it's Ferrari red crown colour and branding, the driver certainly attracts attention. Ferrari's engineers made some changes to driver to make the club swing easily through the air and increase club head speed.

These changes included new radii along the face perimeter, smoothing the sole surfaces and raising the trailing edge of the driver. Cobra say the changes will increase distances, on average, 6-10 yards.

Set to retail around £1,250, and with future plans to possibly release a black and yellow driver, the Ferrari driver will certainly turn heads, but may be out of the price range for many average golfers. But if you do splash out, your new driver will come complete with a hand-stitched leather grip, and headcover made from genuine Ferrari leather, and will be presented in a luxurious Ferrari Golf Collection display box.

Ferrari Golf ShoesOffered in both black and white, the full-grain leather shoes are handcrafted in Italy and designed to represent the epitome of fashion and technology. The stitching is designed to resemble the interor of a Ferrari car and the sole features Puma's S²Quill technology providing traction, stability and support.

The shoes ooze class and elegance. High quality, handmade leather shoes for the golf course. They feature a subtle prancing horse logo on the heel, that mirrors the mirrors the understated, classy look of the entire range.

The shoes are set to retail around £400. Of course, the Ferrari shoes can be accompanied by an impressive leather shoe bag that would look very at home in the boot of the latest Ferrari sportscar.

Ferrari ApparelFerrari's Golf apparel line will feature polo shirts, knits, jackets and trousers. The Golf Tech Polos are designed to keep you comfortable and stylish in all weather. Using COOLMAX All Season, UPF 50+ and moisture wicking technologies, the two polo shirts are available in red, black or white and look very smart. Each polo will retail at £80.

The On-Course Jacket will be a must-have for any Ferrari-owning golf enthusiast. Sporting contrast red stitching on black fabric, the breathable design was again based on the interior of Ferrari's cars and is wind and water resistant.

After dressing up like we own a Ferrari, we took a look at the Ferrari Golf accessories. Items such as visors, belts, gloves, umbrellas and bags are all branded with Ferrari's prancing horse and maintain an amazing attention to detail.

The Ferrari Golf Luxury line, including a golf and duffel bag, are crafted from Poltrana Frau Leather. Yes, this is the same cream-coloured leather that is used in Ferrari GT Cars.

Whilst the new Ferrari Golf Collection will not appeal to the masses based on its price points, the collection is a masterpiece in design, detail and technology. As Tom Preece, Cobra's VP of R&D, says "The Ferrari Golf Collection is a work of art."

The Ferrari Golf Collection will be released to selected golf retailers and Ferrari stores in July.
