The new Cobra BiO CELL fairway woods may look bright and colourful, but there is more to them than their eyecatching finishes. Cobra have packed the design with their latest technology to help golfers "Go Long" and tune in their performance.

The result is a low-profile, adjustable fairway wood that will go around 10 yards further than its predessor, the Cobra AMP CELL fairway.

Much like the previous models the BiO CELL is available in either orange, red, blue or grey, but new to the range is a black option. All BiO CELL drivers, fairways, hybrids and irons will be offered in the same five colours so you will be able to colour coordinate your entire set.

As we said, the new design is more than just a lick of paint. Cobra have developed the adjustability thanks to their improved MyFly8 technology. The upgrade allows golfers to choose from 8 different lofts on 2 different lofted clubheads. Cobra believe this adjustability allows players to better manage their flight and distance gaps.

The 3-4 wood head can be adjusted from 13 to 16 degrees whilst the 5-7 wood can be altered from 17 to 20 degrees. Within those 8 settings are 3 draw-bias loft options. Both the 3-4 wood and the 5-7 wood offer two more lofts than the AMP CELL which offered six different loft settings.

As you die-hard equipment fans know, typically when you adjust the loft of a club you will subsequently impact the face angle. Adding loft to a club will close the face angle whilst reducing the loft will open the face angle. Cobra understand this issue and have addressed it once more by adding their SmartPad technology to the sole of the BiO CELL fairway.

The SmartPad, seen in the photo above, is carefully shaped to ensure that the face angle remains square at address, regardless of the loft setting.

Once a loft is chosen, players should see an increase in distance compared previous models. That is down to the new, forged steel face. Added to a stainless steel body, the high-strength steel face insert flexes more at impact and thus launches higher and produces faster ball speeds.

Cobra say the BiO CELL fairway has ball speed increases of around 2mph of the new face, which should equate to around 10 yards more than the AMP CELL.

As well as being stronger and faster than before, the face is also thinner and shallower. From top to bottom, the face is 4mm smaller than before, giving it a lower profile. This shape will send the ball a little higher than before and is better suited to hitting shots from the fairway or rough.

Using their familiar E9 Face Technology, Cobra were able to remove some weight from the face as well as the crown. They used this discretionary weight to position the centre of gravity lower and deeper in the clubhead, which in turn improves the MOI or forgiveness of the club.
