Earlier this season, Callaway launched the X Hot and X Hot Pro fairway woods designed for more distance from every type of lie. The X Hot 3Deep has been designed specifically for Tour players and big hitters looking for a low-spinning fairway wood, especially effective off the tee.
Luke Williams, Senior Director at Callaway Golf, explains “With 3 woods, there are two different camps. There are players that hit their 3 woods primarily off the tee and others who use it mostly off the fairway. The longer hitters use it mostly off the tee, because they very rarely are far enough out on a par 5 to need it.”
The key feature in the X Hot 3Deep is the newly designed deeper face. The face features the same Forged Face Cup and Speed Frame Face as the standard X Hot range, but the clubhead is 25cc larger thanks to the deeper face dimensions.
The result of the deeper face and larger head is a club that will promote lower spin off the tee, more control than a driver and greater distance than a traditional fairway wood.
Neil Howie of Callaway said “This new X Hot 3Deep has already given Phil and other Tour players another option to attack courses with. Whilst testing with Phil, our guys in the US noted that he tends to hit it higher on the face, so the clubface on the 3Deep is roughly 10% higher."
“This design change will allow better players to create higher ball speeds, optimal spin rates, generate a little more distance but still have a club in the bag that is ‘workable’ off the tee, and manageable from the fairway.”
The Callaway X Hot 3Deep fairway wood is available in either a 13 or 14.5 (right handed only) version, complete with a 43.5" lightweight Project X Velocity shaft. It will be in shops with an RRP of £189.
