For many of us, the idea of having a caddy on every round we play is unaffordable. However, the Caddietech X1 does just about everything a caddy would do, apart from carrying your clubs.
The seeing, talking GPS device won the 2013 Golf Europe award for Best GPS and is preloaded and now in pro shops across the UK and Europe.
Barely larger than the size of a golf ball, the X1 provides distances to the front, middle and back of the green. One simple click will display the yardages wherever you might find yourself on the course and if that's too much effort for you, the X1 can even talk. Switch the device into voice mode and the X1 will speak and tell you how far you have left in whatever language you choose.
Not only does the X1 tell you how far you have to go, it tells you how far you've been. With the click of a button it can measure and display the length and time of your round, as well as the ability to measure you last shot.
The device comes in either white or black, each preloaded with more than 43,000 courses across Europe. Caddietech do not charge an annual membership or subscription and even if the course you want is not loaded, a free update and download will be available.
As is the case with European golf, adverse weather is a common occurrence. Caddietech understand this and thus the X1 is water resistent, meaning it can handle even the harshest Scottish conditions.
The device comes with a clip already installed on the reverse so you can clip the X1 to your bag, belt or cap, or simply store it in your pocket. Caddietech tell us the battery will last up to 9 hours, giving players the option of 36 holes on one charge.
Caddietech have also designed a X1+ model. The plus model offers a unique and interesting feature that measures elevation. The device can give you the height from where you are standing to the flag, giving you a better idea of the effective distance and elevation to the hole.
