EU Tour: French Open, 2 July

The French Open returns to the excellent Paris National course this year. The course has generous fairways but requires accurate long iron approach shots to the small greens guarded generally by water hazards. A trend has emerged in that a number of rank outsiders have won in recent years the latest of which was Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal in 2008

OUTRIGHT: Lee Westwood 1pts Win and Place 18/1

Westwood has had a miserable season by his own high standards in 2009 recording only one top ten finish so far. He won’t be best pleased with that performance and ought to be keen to get his season going as soon as possible. His efforts at the US Open at Bethpage two weeks ago showed real promise albeit only for three rounds out of four. His course form is good with three top ten finishes here since 1994 including a top five finish last year.

OUTRIGHT: Richard Green 1pts Win and Place 33/1

Green was our successful pick here in 2008 so his course form now reads 2T 04, 7T 06 and 4th 08. Encouragingly Green was tied sixth last time out in Europe in the Wales Open three weeks ago.

PGA Tour: AT&T National, 2 July

The tough par 70 Congressional Country Club plays host to this event for the third time in succession. Accuracy off the tee and with approach shots is key at this venue.

OUTRIGHT: Anthony Kim 1pt win or place 25/1

2008 title winner Kim returns to Congressional this year. After a poor season in 2009 he will be looking to turn that around with a victory soon. On the back of a decent performance last week in the Travelers event where he finished tied eleventh he can reasonably be expected to perform well here again this week.

OUTRIGHT: Hunter Mahan 1pt win or place 18/1

Mahan has good course form here finishing inside the top twelve on his last two outings. On the back of good form he has shown in his last two outings at The US Open and The Travelers event last week he ought to contend strongly this week on a course he clearly likes.
